News:

  • We have an assembly at 9:15 on Wednesday.
  • We have our barnyard activity with the FFA at 1:00.
  • Wednesday we are going to do our MCA party to celebrate our success!
  • Wednesday is full band and art also!

Reading: 

  • We will continue working with idioms this week!
  • We need to finish reading Extreme Dogboarding, Famous First, The Cyclist’s Song, and Manny Masters Curling.
  • We are still working with determining the importance while reading stories.
  • We are working with adverbs this whole week.
  • New vocabulary words will be due this week.
  • DLR quiz on Friday!

Writing:

  • We will be working with idioms in our writing.
  • We will be working with a lot of short answers on determining importance in the stories we are reading.

Socail:

  • We will continue working on chapter 6, getting through lessons 1-3.

April 27th- May 1st

News:

  • Reading test on Tuesday!
  • We will have music everyday this week starting at 1:20. Program on Friday!
  • Social tests back on Wednesday!

Reading:

  • Reading test Tuesday!
  • Review and all vocabulary pictures are due on Monday.
  • We will go through the test on Wednesday and introduce the new theme.
  • We will discuss idioms.
  • Vocabulary words!
  • Comprehension strategy for the week: Determine Importance.
  • We will read; America’s Champion Swimmer, Extreme Dogboarding, and Famour First.

Writing:

  • Papers due this week!
  • We will be working with poetry this week!

Social:

  • I will hand back tests. I need them returned by Wednesday.
  • We will introduce chapter 6 this week.
  • We will get through lesson 1 and 2 for both classes.

April 20th- 24th

News:

  • Full band and art on Wednesday!
  • Test for social Friday!
  • It’s chilly this week so bring jackets for recess!

Reading:

  • We will have two sets of vocabulary words this week.
  • We will be reading What Comes Down, How Gravity was Invented, Walking in Space, and Out-of-this-world Vacation.
  • Comprehension strategy this week is visual cues. We will be working with that as we read our stories.
  • We will be working with pronouns all week.
  • We will continue working with our DLR’s throughout the week.

Writing:

  • Monday and Tuesday are the last days we will be working on our essays. They are due on Tuesday.
  • We will start writing observation logs to correlate with our story, What Comes Down.

Social:

  • Review for classes on Monday and Tuesday.
  • Tests on Thursday and Friday.

April 13th-17th

News:

  • MCA reading testing this week Thursday! Get plenty of rest this week to better prepare yourself for the test!
  • Spelling test this week; pretest on Wednesday.
  • Nutrition this week Thursday.

Reading:

  • Our reading comprehension skill for the week is asking questions. We will be working with that throughout the week in our stories.
  • We will be working with abbreviations. Our spelling words reflect this.
  • I will be reading Mirette on the High Wire and What Comes Down this week to the class.
  • We will have new vocabulary words on Wednesday this week.
  • MCA practice questions!!!

Writing:

  • We will be proof reading and peer editing our papers today.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday we will type up our stories. They will be complete on Wednesday.

Social:

  • Social review Monday and Tuesday.
  • Test next week.

April 7th- 9th

News:

  • Short week! School starts on Tuesday and we are done Thursday!
  • MCA Testing next week Thursday! Get plenty of sleep and be prepared!
  • Bring in March reading calendars!

Reading:

  • Reading test on Tuesday, April 7th.
  • Being it’s a short week and we have MCA testing on Thursday we will be working with MCA samplers to dig deep into what they are asking and how we can do our best on the test!
  • We will be introducing our new theme, What Goes Up Must Come Down. This unit will be about gravity and we will get more into it next week.

Writing:

  • Continue working on our 5 paragraph papers.
  • We will be aiming to have these down at the end of this week or early next week.
  • Remember to have it corrected by 2 students and even a parent before our final copy!

Social:

  • We will be closing out our chapter this week.
  • Review and test next week!

March 30th- April 3rd

News:

  • Math MCA on Tuesday March 31st. Get plenty of sleep the night before! Be confident in yourself!
  • We have this Friday and next Monday off! Enjoy the mini vacation!
  • No spelling this week due to short week and MCAs from last week and this week.
  • Tuesday is also class picture day. Bring in your order slip and dress nice!

Reading:

  • We will continue working with contractions.
  • We will introduce exaggerations and hyperboles.
  • We will have a reading test on Thursday this week. Study, study, study!
  • We are working with comparing and contrasting with our story, One Hundred Sixty Miles of Bad Weather.
  • Independent reading is very important. Please encourage your child to read at home also!

Writing:

  • We will start our 5 paragraph essay. Students brain stormed over the weekend so we will be starting our rough draft!

Social:

  • We will continue working with our lesson on the American Revolution. We will get through lesson 4 and 5. Test will be next week!

News:

  • MCA testing this week! Meyer-26th. Ament 27th. Get plenty of rest and be ready to rock the test!
  • Spelling test this week: Ament Thursday. Meyer Friday.
  • Full band on Wednesday.
  • Art on Friday.

Reading:

  • We are working with authors purpose this week!
  • New vocabulary words this week. Finish at home!
  • We will be concentrating on contractions this week. They reflect our spelling words!
  • We will be reading short stories to look for authors purpose and contractions.

Writing:

  • We will be working with our DLR’s.
  • Daily writing will occur as usual!
  • I will introducing how to write a 5 paragraph paper.
  • We will work on the writing process; prewriting, drafting, editing, proofreading, and publishing.

Social:

  • We will continue learning about the American Revolution.
  • We will be working in sections 2 and 3.
  • Test will be late next week!

News:

  • Full band Wednesday!

  • Friday is the last day of the quarter and the first day of Spring!
  • Spelling pre-test Wednesday. Spelling test Friday.

Reading:

  • We are starting Theme 10!
  • Our comprehension strategy is inferring the authors purpose this week!
  • We will continue talking about prefixes: pre and re!
  • We will talk about dialogue this week!
  • We will work with singular/plural nouns!

Social:

  • We are starting a new chapter this week talking about the cause of the Revolutionary War!

News:

  • Social Test on Tuesday for Meyer and Wednesday for Ament.
  • Reading test on Friday for both classes.
  • Art on Thursday.

Reading:

  • We will be working with prefixes; non, in and dis.
  • We will be reading a few interactive stories; Cumberland Gap and The Life and Travels of Jedediah Smith.
  • We will be doing a symbolism activity.
  • We will review on Thursday before the test.
  • The spelling words are on Spelling City, my word press site, our news letter, and I handed out a copy.

Social:

  • Test of Meyer on Tuesday. Ament is on Wednesday.
  • We will begin our next chapter towards the end of the week.

  • Thursday is our nutrition day and art!
  • Spelling words this week are a review of everything we learned this year!

Reading:

  • We will be starting a new theme this week!
  • Comprehension strategy this week is compare and contrast.
  • Vocabulary words: escape, colonization, compass, commence, and commotion.
  • We will be working with the prefix “UN”
  • Morning classes will continue to work with the book, The Tale of Despereaux. Both classes will need to finish their writing projects this week.

Social:

  • Social test this week!!! Study, study, study!
  • We will have a review one day this week and then the test the next.
