Testing

TYPES OF TESTS:

  • PSAT – Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test – Offered to juniors in October. This is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program and can also be used as a practice test for the SAT. The fee for this test is $14.
  • PLAN – Pre-ACT – Offered to sophomores. This test can be used for career interest information as well as a practice ACT test. This test will report how you can be expected to perform on the actual ACT test. The test is FREE.
  • ASVAB – Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery – This test is free of charge and is available to all juniors and seniors. The results of this test are used for military entrance but can also be used to help students narrow their career search. All juniors take the test in September.
  • ACT – If you are planning to attend college, or are even thinking about it, you should take this test. The ACT is required for entrance into most Minnesota colleges and universities. The test is offered 5 times during the year and can be taken at several surrounding high schools (Park Rapids, Staples, Perham). Juniors should plan to take the test in April. This allows them the chance to re-test in October of their Senior year, if necessary. To register, go to www.actstudent.org.
  • SAT – Scholastic Aptitude Test – The SAT is an entrance test that is required for admission to many colleges and universities outside the midwest. To register, go to www.collegeboard.com
  • MCA-III – Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment Series III – This test is designed to determine how well a school is teaching the curriculum to students. The results from this test are used to show yearly progress and make the schools accountable for effective teaching
  • ACCUPLACER – computerized college entrance exam testing math and reading. Used mostly by 2-year colleges
