Large Group: Structured Vocabulary Discussion using the activity on page 369 of sourcebooks.

  • Play a prefix game with class. Explain the meanings of prefixes –re and –pre to class again draw groups of two and give them three minutes to come up with as many as they can. Award “Trojan Pride Points” to the winning group.

Small Group: Read “Reach for the Stars! Amazing Women in Space”. Put up SMART board lesson and have students answer the questions “What do astronauts do?” “What do you think a person has to do in order to become an astronaut?”

Set Purpose: Let’s read to learn about some female astronauts!

  • Look at the astronaut on page 350. What do you think it would be like to have her job?
  • What do you think Earth looks like from space?
  • Why do astronauts wear special suits?
  • What do you think it would feel like to travel in outer space?
